Shinsung Sunday

Published on August 4, 2024

Yep, it was one of those days again. A Shinsung Sunday.

Relaxing in the shade in the garden with a leaking Fire 201 on the table. Wow! Time really flies. It all started with me and Shinsung sometime around the turn of the century. The Fire 201 was truly what they later called a game-changer. Nice and simple, lightweight, elegant in design, and—for its time—a very powerful single-shot rifle. It became a smash hit.

Twenty years later, you still come across them, of course. Because: Simple technology outlasts everything, unlike complicated technology. The inside looked pretty battered, but: Who knows what a rifle like this has been through. It doesn’t matter anyway, because it’s a tool. So: I put in some new, well-fitting NBR70 O-rings and reassembled everything properly with some white grease (Dow Chemicals), and it’s working perfectly again. At least for now. Tomorrow, after a busy night, we’ll take another look. Update: I replaced the fill valve with a Foster kit… Only then was it back in tip-top shape.

That red tomcat (with one eye)? He always helps me out and has an amazingly keen understanding of technology and logic. Whenever I'm about to give up, he always has a golden tip!
